Holy Water

Embers and ash
Spinning in a cyclone
Sea breeze at night
Wondering where it goes
Burned notes telling secrets to the wind

Holy water
Coming up at high tide
Pray for our sins
Palms together hands tied
Confide in the truth we seek through sin

Walking the edge
High above the skyline
With these hearts we pledge
Once upon this lifetime
Close our eyes and fly
Please don’t let this go to waste
Don’t let this go to waste

I’ve been told to pick a side
Instead I pulled the curtain wide
Can’t believe it’s come to this
Cause I’m convinced there’s more to this

Was it yours or was it mine
The blindfold that kept me from the light?

Rip tides guide us through the night
Baptized with the salt in our wounds
I hold onto you and close my eyes
Can’t believe you saw it too

Holy water
Washing up at low tide
The dawn is dim
Reborn and so alive
Stay wild and keep the fire strong within

Once upon this lifetime
We’re guided by the light
Don’t let this go to waste
Don’t let this go to waste

Love Always,
Lainey

Amethyst

Today I stared in your eyes
Studied every curve of your face
Saw your every disguise
In every passing phase
Didn’t know it was you until now

And when I cried
You wiped the tears away
When I wanted to hide
You made it a safe place
Didn’t know you did that until now

Then all the missing pieces were found
Made the most original picture of you
And the smoke turned to clouds
Gray skies turned periwinkle blue

I grabbed your hand and looked down
Saw my hands folded in my lap
and every face I made
Was reflected right back

And this whole time I swore
I was looking for a knight
But I was reaching for a sword
Cutting off all those kind of lies

As I unclenched my fist
Let the energy take hold of me
Now I’m ready for this
Amethyst

And all the pieces were found
Made the most original picture of you...

Didn’t know it was you until now

Love Always,
Lainey

Moon Stone

There’s a dying match
Didn’t quite catch the wick
Don’t know what’s in the dark
But maybe it’s how I like it

I close my eyes to see
But you can find my eyes
If you close yours too
An hour past midnight

We start to see things
Like secrets of what’s next
Some we don’t believe though
But some can’t dodge the mess

The moon turned me to stone
It does that sometimes
It’s how I step outside myself
When there’s shadow there’s light

When the healing hurts
More than the wound
Take a little detour
From these cycles we go through

There’s a dying match
Didn’t quite catch the wick
Don’t know what’s in the dark
But maybe it’s how I like it

Love Always,
Lainey

Cracks of Light

Ocean salt falls between the cracks
Burns before it heals
Numb to the feel
Unfamiliar but it’s nice

Earth shakes the ground breaks
The world is upside down
Don’t look both ways
Maybe it’s just a phase
So many days I’ve lost count

The sun falls with the sky
Another night to do this right
At least that’s what I tell myself
A truth I’ll never tell
It’s just not worth the fight

That’s the part that stays in the dark
Can’t hide the broken pieces
When light bleeds through them
Don’t look for patterns tracing these lines
You’ll get lost in what’s yours and mine

Love always,
Lainey

Follow the Echo

There’s an echo in my dreams
I can’t drown out
Even when it makes no sound
Telling me to wait
That it’s all gonna be okay
Another slate wiped clean after midnight

Why relive each day, each life
Inside such a cluttered mind
Barely making it out alive
Because you do what they tell you to

And the echo gets restless
Escapes my eyes, water into light
I was never a good liar anyways
So here I stand barely holding on
But I’ve never felt so strong

We’ve been kept in the dark
They didn’t know we could close our eyes
To see where the light will lead
To an ocean deep or a cliff high and steep
We start over and let the phoenix rise

Why relive each day, each life
Inside such a cluttered mind
Barely making it out alive
Because you do what they tell you to

Look at me and tell me what you see
And I’ll tell you what you need to know
Fears projected on the walls reflect
Break them down, they don’t serve or protect
Trust that fear will guide us where we need to go

Why relive each day, each life
Inside such a cluttered mind
Barely making it out alive
Because you do what they tell you to

Love Always,
Lainey

Weight of Gold

Ancient lullabies sung at night
Tell us of tales in search of lights
Maps and treasures filled with gold
For those who venture the unknown
Who dare dig up the lonely earth
In hopes the future holds its worth?
The weight of gold
Might be too heavy to hold

But these songs sound so enticing
And the way it shines is so inviting
A siren’s song leads sailors to tombs
It sparkles and shines and grabs you too
Lead by your eyes blinding your mind
Blocks out your heart leaving you blind
But you don’t see the irony here
The gold you seek is never near

Oh the things you’ll do to hold it close
Oh the things you’ve done no one knows
But let’s pretend we know your secrets
And all you said to us to try and keep it
These pictures you paint aren’t as they seem
And the hands you’ve used aren’t as clean
The weight of gold
Seems too heavy to hold

You see me here with empty hands
A freedom you may never understand
You pity my lack of treasured gifts
But clench that gold around your wrists
I use two hands to climb and feel free
Your hands are bound at 90 degrees
But you don’t see the irony here
The gold you seek is never near

You can dig and dig but it’ll never be enough
Not compared to all you’ve lost
Time is spent looking at the ground
While it’s tying us up and weighing us down
Reclaim your life and look it in the eyes
The most expensive things don’t have a price
When the weight of gold
Is too heavy to hold

Love Always,
Lainey

Warm Like Gray

Lost my mind but I don’t mind
It just so happens all the time
But that’s okay
Warm and bright like the color gray
As I tip toed on cotton clouds
These doubts I can sedate

I’ve never been this far before
Far from these outlines on the floor
It’s not what I thought
Numb from fears I’ve fought
And I’ve began to see more color
In every other breath I’ve caught

And I don’t need your sympathy
Or any other look you give to me
I need to try
When all these truths became a lie
Warm and bright like the color gray
Colorblind in a rainbow light

And maybe I was wrong
Held on for far too long
And now I’m free
As we trapped our secrets behind our teeth
We grieved and shed our skin
Destined to redeem this new heart beat

Love Always,
Lainey

Sky Between the Clouds

Soft are the whispers that fell through the sky
In a language no one else can hear but you
Listen closely and hold out your hands
But you can’t hold on to what you want to
In a world trying to force what it can’t

Close your eyes and tell me what you see
Do you see all the colors of the rain?
Or maybe the dark swallowed the light?
The thoughts that haunt were never drained
Flooded through your waking dreams each night

But as the sky speaks in horizon shades
It pulls you to the edge to dance with the tide
Back and forth in circles and squares
Start to hear the sky speak through your eyes
Feeling exposed cause they know you care

Don’t confuse flashes of light with pride
The names we make can change at any time
It takes a lot to stand against the crowd
Only you can read the signs in plain sight
And see the sky between the clouds

Love Always,
Lainey

Matters of the Mind

What you see is what you want
Chase things that haunt your dreams
Fill the cracks with broken glass
Shines when the light hits just right
Carry what you thought you left behind
In matters of the mind

Sleep with one eye open
Let go of hope in expectations
Cause you can’t even control yourself
Tame the beast at the end of the leash
Stare it in the eyes on repeat
Inhale, exhale, release

Found home in a strange place
The comfort of a clean slate when we awake
Every time we try and resist this
The concept of time doesn’t exist
The things we hide surface as a lie
In matters of the mind

And through the dust it’s clear
The answers were always here
Focus on the here and now
Surrounded by the life we made
You wear the crown, I’ll wear the cape
There’s only one way out, one escape

Lessons make us who we are
If it wasn’t hard we wouldn’t know
How much we needed to grow
Take advantage of where we are
Open your eyes after being so blind
In matters of the mind

Love Always,
Lainey

Changing Skies

How many times did the sun come back?
Sunrises and sunsets came and went
How many do we have left?
How many prayers have we sent
To keep us together?

I’ve watched the colors of the sky change
I’ve watched your eyes change with the moon
Death gripping each moment
And it’s gone too soon

It’s a blessing and a curse to live so well
Trapped in hell as these fires rise
Everything we know keeps changing
Pulled into the tide we ride

We seek comfort in familiar things
Wish for strength to weather the storm
Hope and pray, cry and scream
But change makes us transform

Does the night sky show us its scars?
Beams of light from each dying star
Speaks to us in blinks of an eye
You sleep, but sleep is hard

The dawn will come and bathe us in light
Trapped between lucid dreams and reality
We keep the stars in our wounds
They heal us from the inside out as we see...
Love means there’s no finality

Love Always,
Lainey
