The New Normal

I used to think it was normal to feel over worked and tired

Fought through the sleepless nights with early plans to retire

I didn’t take a moment’s time to prioritize myself

When I was lost in tunnel vision for somebody else

But life has a funny way of knocking us off our feet

Not knowing at the time it was really meant to be

I’ve tried countless times denying the all the signs

Only to be knocked off again until I saw the stars have realigned

Normal doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the way to live

Despite all the criticisms it’s ourselves we must forgive

Cause once I’ve released all desires to fit inside a mold

It’s really the ones who break away who turn copper into gold

Please don’t get discouraged if things seem to take its time

Keep doing what makes you happy and know all timing’s divine

Kaleidoscope

A prism of stars aligned

Never seemed so confusing

A fate certain and signed

Must be so amusing 

When the colors change

And shapes quickly unfold

Boundaries rearrange

Unable to grasp or hold

But certainty has a price 

Hidden behind a smile 

A truth imbedded with lies

Hope is a siren 

Setting off alarms

Telling me to move 

Against what’s pulling on my arm

Getting lost in translation deep in my sleep

Manifest the dream

Working in waking dreams to translate reality

Soul Ties

It’s like we came into this knowing

What we should’ve been

Did the math

Stayed on path

Yet had to let it all sink in

Sometimes It’s torture

Sometimes it’s nice

Sometimes it takes a toll to reach a place

That turns our heart to ice

So look deep in my eyes

Can you feel the flames?

Can you prove that timing here is not up for debate?

If you really looked

If you could really see

Then you’d know I’ve been through it all

And cannot be deceived

Your colors give you away

They’re displayed across your face

Desperately believing in everything you say

Now close your eyes and focus

Breathe with much intention

Can you feel the roots of truth that lie behind your mentions?

Let this be our journey

Let this be our growth

Let this be our guide that our higher selves promote

The ice will melt

The flames will rise

Remember how you felt 

Next time you read someone else’s eyes

Be gentle

Be kind

Next time you face the dark 

while searching for your light

LIFE

I can’t get away from you

Even if I tried

I see you in every color of the moonlight

Don’t be so surprised 

I noticed 

And in these waking dreams

That get so tangled with these fantasies 

Dare to live that dream so bold

Before the whispers of the cold

Blow them away

With every breath we held inside

Those doubts or fears that petrified us

Were just a breath away

But in my core remained

All of you

I try so hard to understand 

Sometimes I try too hard and

I reach too far and miss

As you blew me back a kiss

I knew this wasn’t it

And every lesson you ever taught

That’s got my stomach tied up in knots

You knew I’d make it through

Cause I create through you

It’s what you do

What would I be without a guide

To live a life not just to survive

I guess it’s what we make of it

And look how far we’ve come of this

Life’s got a language
We all can speak
Through love and anguish
Undeniable energy

Often unnoticed
Never undetected

When a light is reflected

In any universe

Free

We were as free as could be

Fears falling like leaves

Slow dancing in the autumn breeze 

We knew how lucky we were

Now the past is just a blur…

The wind kicked up

Mixed fear and love

We’ve never felt so alive 

‘Till we met death

Now we’re counting each breath like

We’re going in debt

Tread lightly on eggshells

Our own homemade hell

Pour more salt in our wounds 

As we’re cradled in our tombs

And running out of room

Each sunrise brings relief

Fear is just a thief of the things we love

The tighter we grasp the harder to relax

Just close our eyes and see where we end up

It’s the closest to living we could be

Is when we allow ourselves to be free

Dried Flowers

Change is in the air

Can’t stay here for long

Paralyzed in a stare

In this place I don’t belong

I dreamt up this place

Hope carried by a breeze

Doubts I never faced

Petals falling from the trees

And I don’t mean to be misleading

But there’s a fire inside I can’t explain

Maybe ‘cause it never got that deep

There’s much you missed before you came

I don’t care who understands me

It’s a waste of breath I’ve learned

It’s exhausting to sleep peacefully

When you’re just waiting to get burned

But these dried flowers were not in vain 

When we stripped them from their roots

How do we expect them not to change

Thinking tomorrow is so absolute?

So I patched these wings with

Sugar coated promises of later

The most thoughtless gift

From your sweetest traitor

Take the change and try to fly

There’s so much just out of reach

Might as well enjoy the ride

As we’re carried by the breeze

FEAR

Fear only loves itself 

As lightning struck the sand 

Behind the glass as it fell

Frozen in time waiting for release

Glass bottles can’t hold everything

Thunder rolls behind the clouds

With static like a synapse

We try hard to drown them out

Frozen in time waiting for release

So we pray and meditate 

Speak, listen, and gravitate

Break the cycles that perpetuate 

Resolve, release, and levitate

In this new life we create 

We go on leading separate lives

And realize it’s an illusion

That takes us by surprise

Glass bottles can’t hold everything

As the glass breaks

Star dust fills up the sky

Divine timing is never late

Once we learn to trust ourselves

And give all fear back to itself

Tied and tethered to a fringe of leather

Hanging off your left coat sleeve

Couldn’t decide whether I’d ever

Compare to the dreams you’ve had of me

I guess I’ll never know

But there’s a softness in your eyes

That speaks through light

With a glimpse of what’s ahead

And a reason for why we met

Still I weather the poison from the nectar 

Sweeter than anything else you gave

Knowing better for forever

Helplessly lost in a dangerous gaze

Feels so right to be so low, though
