Changing Skies

How many times did the sun come back?
Sunrises and sunsets came and went
How many do we have left?
How many prayers have we sent
To keep us together?

I’ve watched the colors of the sky change
I’ve watched your eyes change with the moon
Death gripping each moment
And it’s gone too soon

It’s a blessing and a curse to live so well
Trapped in hell as these fires rise
Everything we know keeps changing
Pulled into the tide we ride

We seek comfort in familiar things
Wish for strength to weather the storm
Hope and pray, cry and scream
But change makes us transform

Does the night sky show us its scars?
Beams of light from each dying star
Speaks to us in blinks of an eye
You sleep, but sleep is hard

The dawn will come and bathe us in light
Trapped between lucid dreams and reality
We keep the stars in our wounds
They heal us from the inside out as we see...
Love means there’s no finality

Love Always,
Lainey

Golden Hour

Break the chains that kept you
Played it safe for too long
They claimed to know you better
Knew every letter but not your name

Held tight to the ropes we walked on
Stumbling and not looking down
Burning beneath our feet
Don’t know defeat as we meet the dawn

No one knows the fires we walked through
To get to where we are
Empty shells and bulletproof
The stars above refuse to move
Like we do

Fall into the light
When the dark swallowed you whole
Face the dark with the sun at your back
Reclaim
Rename
Your soul

Recognize those eyes
You’re not a stranger anymore
The setting sun calls to you
In waves
These days
There’s more

Losing light as the golden hour comes
Unraveled, undone as gold turns to night
But the stars they shine
And speak through your eyes

Held tight to the ropes we walked on
Stumbling and not looking down
Burning beneath our feet
Don’t know defeat as we meet the dawn

Love Always,
Lainey
